La société de raffinerie de pétrole ASTRA ROMANA fut fondée en 1880 à Ploiesti, en Roumanie. Elle fut partie du trust Royal Dutch Shell de 1911 à 1947.
En 2009, Astra Romana forma avec plusieurs sociétés détenues par l'homme d'affaires Ioan Niculae, la société de production d'électricité et de chaleur en cogénération Energy Cogeneration Group, comprenant les entreprises chimiques Viromet, Amonil Slobozia, Amurco Bacău, Ga-Pro-Co Chemicals Săvinești , Donau Chem Turnu Măgureleet Astra Română, ainsi que la société InterAgro.
La production fut arrêtée en 2004.
