Privileged share of 250 francs issued in Saumur in 1905.

In January 1896, the French State, by decree of the President of the Republic Félix Faure, entrusted the city of Saumur with the task of completing the Saumur-Fontevrault railway network on the Saumur-Poitiers line.

The Compagnie des Voies Ferrées Economiques therefore completed the work of Mr. Monprofit and opened the line at the end of 1896.

After 9 years of operation, the company gave way to the Compagnie des Tramways de Saumur et Extensions, a sign of the first financial difficulties of the network marked by the development of the automobile. The company ceased operations in 1929.
