Legendary American airline founded in 1927 by Richard B. Bevier, John K. Montgomery and George Grant Mason.

The first flights linked Key-West to Havana in Cuba. The network expanded into Central and South America, where the company bought out many bankrupt local companies.

It then operated in Europe, particularly in Great Britain and France.

In 1946, the company created the InterContinental hotel chain.

Pan Am bought National Airlines in the 1980s but the company's decline had already begun. The Gulf War was the coup de grace and the company went bankrupt in 1991. Delta Airlines bought the last assets of the company. The Pan Am hub in Miami was then divided between United Airlines and American Airlines.
