The Petit Parisien newspaper was founded by Louis Andrieux in 1876 and taken over in 1844 by Jean Dupuy. Very popular until the end of the First World War, the newspaper, transformed during the Second World War into a propaganda tool, was suspended.

Pierre Dupuy, son of Jean, who took over the management of the newspaper from 1906 to 1944, was accused of collaboration. Despite his acquittal, the newspaper was suppressed and replaced by Le Parisien Libéré in 1944.

The newspaper then took the form of a workers' cooperative founded by Emilien Amaury with his fellow resistance fighters Robert Buron, Jean Helleu, Félix Garras and Claude Bellanger. Emilien Amaury ran the newspaper until his death in 1970.

After a family dispute, his son Philippe Amaury took over the newspaper while his daughter Francine took over Marie-France and Point de Vue.

In 1986, Le Parisien Libéré was renamed "Le Parisien". The LVMH-Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton group acquires Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui in France.
