Jean Alexis Hubert Rostand was a French merchant and politician, mayor of Marseille from 1830 to 1832. He was director of the Comptoir National d'Escompte then banker in Marseille. He was co-founder of the Bank of West Africa. Also an informed music lover, he was president of the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Marseille and vice-president of the Société des Amis des Arts.
