Share to bearer of 500 francs issued in Paris in 1917.

The company was incorporated in 1907, with offices throughout West Africa in Senegal, Guinea, Sudan, Upper Volta, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast, Ivory Coast, Togo, Dahomey and Nigeria.

The SCOA sold in its counters in Africa all the objects of European manufacture consumed by the population or by the settlers. It imported into Europe agricultural products and raw materials from African soil (peanuts, oil, cocoa, rubber, cotton, etc.).

Its main competitor was the French West Africa Company (now CFAO).

The company was affected by the Bac d'Eloka decision, following an accident off the Ivory Coast in 1921. The company was dissolved in 1998.
