The PPA company (Porte-plume, Mechanical pencil and Accessories) was created in France in 1945.

Marcel Bich, former production manager of an ink factory, is its chief executive officer and Édouard Buffard its production manager.

The company sets up in a factory in Clichy and manufactures spare parts for fountain pens and mechanical pencils.

The company bought the patent for the ballpoint pen invented in 1938 by the Hungarian László Biró and in 1950 launched the Bic Cristal ballpoint pen, a real commercial success with more than 100 billion copies sold worldwide.

In order to be able to sell it correctly and to differentiate itself, the company took the name "BIC" in 1953. The product that bears its name is now part of everyday language.

The company then went into the production of disposable razors and lighters.
