The Artibonite is a Haïti county and also a river.

The company was founded in 1882 in Grande Saline on the Artibonite river, the longer river of Haïti (formrly Santo Domingo).

Extract from the statutes on the back of this rare document: "The purpose of the company was the creation of a steam navigation service on the Artibonite River in Haiti (formerly Santo Domingo), the agricultural and forestry exploitation of several concessions of state lands located on the banks of this river, the sale and trade of the said holdings and everything connected therewith. "

The company harvested logwood and mahogany throughout the river valley and the Central Plateau. In addition to the Grande Saline facilities, the company had four lumber depots, the most distant of which was at Passe Marin. The French flag flew above each of these buildings. For the transport of wood from its depots on the river to the mouth, the company mobilized an imposing equipment: tugs, steam yacht, rowboats.

This is how Haiti will become in the 1880s the first supplier of campeche to North American textile factories, just ahead of the English West Indies.

Very low issue of 1000 shares and only 90 profit shares whose owners recovered 25% of the profits of the company.

Headquarters 63 rue Taitbout, Paris.

Concession made by Mr. Lefebvre, residing in Port-au-Prince in Haiti. It had been accredited to him by the Haitian Government in 1877 for a period of 25 years.
