Dessalines, after defeating the French forces commanded by Rochambeau Vertières, November 18, 1803 proclaims the independence of Haiti, January 1, 1804.

But France is waiting for 1825 to recognize this independence.

President Boyer agrees to pay 150 million francs to compensate the expropriated settlers.

After paying 30 million, Haiti obtained in 1838 that the remaining debt was reduced to 60 million and a peace treaty and friendship is then signed to settle the dispute definitively.

The holder of this title was entitled to the distributions of 60 million due by the Government of Haiti in execution of the treaty of 1838.

Very rare document, on thin paper.

Stamps at the back.
