The first store opened in 1826 and was run by Charles-Armand Gallois and Marie-Augustine Gignoux. Gallois-Gignoux et Cie is a novelty store located on boulevard de la Madeleine at the corner of rue Duphot.

In 1862, Ludovic Pottier met Charles Armand Gallois, from the same region as him in Orne. The latter is looking for partners to bail out his business, which has been faltering since the death of his wife. An excellent manager and shrewd merchant, Ludovic quickly became the store's senior manager.

After Gallois died in 1866, he took over the business. A hard worker, he devoted the rest of his life to it. His two sons, Georges and René, heirs to the company, did not manage to retain ownership during the 20th century.

Roger-Emile Gompel, son of Alfred Gompel, founder with his brothers of the Paris-France company which notably managed the chain of stores "Aux Dames de France", took control of Trois Quartiers and Madelios in 1931.

In 1989, the store will be transformed into a shopping mall.
