Company founded by Joseph Courcelle (signature on the title), representing the Banque de l'Union Parisienne (7 rue Chauchat), and Lucien Michelot on behalf of the Banque de l'Indo-Chine (15 rue Laffitte), with a contribution from concessions of the Compagnie Internationale d'Orient, represented by Emile Francqui residing in Brussels.

The purpose of the company was "the construction and operation of a network of trams to be established in the streets of the French Concession of Shanghai and on the external municipal roads and possibly extending over the whole of Chinese territory, the operation of the monopoly of public and private electric lighting and the transport of electric energy..."

On the board of directors were: Max Boucard (1855-1922), chairman, Georges Ackermann, Camille Brousseaud, Pierre Liénart, Georges Martin (director of the Tramways du Var and du Gard), Lucien Michelot and Charles Wehrung.
